TECHNICAL DATA SHEET METFIN CH 06 REF:0726 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
FEATURES AND BENEFITS Optimum corrosion resistance Colorless film Versatile application Suitable for coil or batch operations Liquid product for ease of dosing Ease of control No-rinse system PROPERTIES
TYPICAL OPERATING PARAMETERS
BATCH OPERATIONS Concentration : 0.1-0.5% v/v in the quench bath* Temperature : determined by quench throughput Time : typically 30 seconds * Post quench systems should use a 2-3% v/v solution.
COIL OPERATIONS Immersion or Spray Vessel Concentration : normally 3-5% v/v Temperature : typically 30-40 deg C Time : 1-2 seconds adequate Ref:0726pro page 1 of 3 revised 28.10.99 2.02 SQUEEGE ROLL SETTINGS (Typical) Material : Hypalon Hardness : 40-55 deg Shore A Roughness : 5-10 micrometer CLA Pressure : 30-70 psi line pressure.
DRYER Air Temperature : 120-140 deg C The strip should be dry to touch at this stage. TESTING AND CONTROL Concentration 1. Take a 5.0ml sample representative of the solution and place in a 250ml conical flask. 2. Add 5ml of 10% Sulphuric acid and 2 grams Potassium iodide crystals. Swirl to dissolve. 3. Add a small quantity of Thyodene. The colour will be blue black. 4. Titrate with 0.1N Sodium thiosulphate solution until the colour changes from black to pale green. Titration x 0.36 = % by volume Gramos CH 06 Bath Condition In order to control the bath contaminant levels and optimise performance the H/T ratio of Hexavalent/Total chromium needs to be determined. Details of a titration procedure are available from Gramos technical staff. Fresh bath Operating bath Contaminated bath H/T Ratio 0.56 0.49-0.56 <0.49 When the H/T ratio falls below 0.49 the bath contents should be changed.
Zinc content Gramos Technical staff will advise on methods available for the determination of zinc content. These include Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Colorimeric and Titration techniques. Zinc content should ideally be controlled below 1000 ppm Zn and under no circumstances should it exceed 1500 ppm Zn since this will lead to reduced performance. Chromium on Strip For continuous strip line operations the chromium level on the strip may be determined using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy or X Ray Fluorescence. Gramos will be pleased to advise on the methodology. Chromium levels on the strip should be typically in the range 10-30 mg/m2 depending upon the level of corrosion protection required.
